SAP Launches Joule – a New Generative AI tool

SAP has enhanced its SAP Business AI offerings with an innovative generative AI copilot tool and a new version of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition.

Underscoring the importance of moving to the cloud and its commitment to using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver added value to customers, SAP launched Joule, a natural language, generative AI-powered copilot that will be embedded throughout SAP’s cloud enterprise portfolio, and a new version of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition.

“Joule has the power to redefine the way businesses work”

“With almost 300 million enterprise users around the world working regularly with SAP cloud solutions, Joule has the power to redefine the way businesses – and the people who power them – work,” said CEO Christian Klein. “Joule draws on SAP’s unique position at the nexus of business and technology and builds on the relevant, reliable, responsible approach to Business AI we’ve pioneered to continue helping our customers solve their most pressing problems. Joule will know what you mean, not just what you say.”

Together the new initiatives represent the latest moves by SAP to build on and enhance existing SAP Business AI offerings and deliver innovations to our cloud customers. More than 26,000 SAP cloud customers have access to SAP Business AI across multiple scenarios and partner solutions.

Joule will be embedded into SAP applications

Joule, which will be embedded into SAP applications from HR to finance, supply chain, procurement, and customer experience, will enable users of SAP applications to ask questions in everyday conversational language and get back relevant insights and useful answers. It sorts through customer data to ensure it is learning from relevant and reliable data and then responds to users’ questions, initially in English and eventually in multiple languages.

Using Joule will be like tapping the smartest colleague on the shoulder to get help with a question.

Employees will simply ask questions in plain language and receive intelligent answers drawn from the wealth of business data and insights from across the SAP portfolio and third-party sources, with context retained.

SAP will offer a free version of Joule directly embedded in SAP business applications (with some user limits), and a premium version that will be available at additional cost, which will include more advanced generative AI capabilities.
